"All cannot live on the piazza...
but everyone may enjoy the sun."
Italian Proverb
Current Exhibition: July 21st - November 30th, 2004
Christopher Cohen Performing Arts Center
San Luis Obispo, California
These photographs show the current installation at the Christopher Cohen Performing Arts Center on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo, California.
This exhibition was first shown in the Town Hall of Siena, Italy, in 1992 with rave reviews from city officials, the local press and the Community of Siena in general. It was also shown in Portland, Oregon in 1994 through a sponsorship of the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This collection of photographs titled "Natural Light and the Italian Piazza," consists of over 160 images that were taken over a period of nine years throughout Italy by Professor Emeritus of Architecture, Sandra Davis Lakeman. This photographic exhibition has been installed on all four levels of the PAC, and it is regarded a serious artistic endeavor as it has been supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, the L.J. Skaggs and Mary C. Skaggs Foundation, and numerous on-campus grants from Cal Poly.
The public can freely enjoy this exhibition during regular performances at the PAC and there are several dedicated evening viewings free and open to the public that are planned in conjunction with the ART AFTER DARK program. A special lecture and tour is available through the office of Continuing Education, and a public lecture free and open to the public will be offered as part of the Hearst Foundation Lecture Series through the College of Architecture and Environmental Design.
Visit often the schedule of events page for the most up to date information on planned events related to the exhibition.
